Womens Hill Skills - Friday 17th Feb
Monthly walks for women living in West Cumbria. Fellbarrow/Loweswater
Course or workshop description
These days are specifically for women living in West Cumbria. We'll go on a different walk each month, have a lovely time outdoors, and build up your hill skills, looking at areas such as map reading, choosing routes, and safety on the hills. The days will be really supportive and fun, and it really doesn't matter if you are a total beginner! We'll go at a pace to suit the group, and each month will be a little different. Minibus transport is provided from Whitehaven. Walking boot hire available, but please ask in advance. Timings: 09.30am - 3pm Meeting point: Whitehaven Library (or meet us at the start of the walk) You will need: lunch and a drink comfortable clothes suitable for the outdoors warm layers walking boots (or let us know if you need to borrow boots) waterproof jacket, and waterproof trousers if you have any small rucksack (we have some available to borrow) walking poles optional The days are funded by the Outdoor Partnership. Our February walk will start in Loweswater, and take us up the Wainwright summit of Fellbarrow. The route will be 6 - 7km, and around 400m of height gain. There will be some wider tracks at first, but most of the walk will be on grassy/muddy paths. This month we will focus on using contour lines on the map, and learning too see map features in 3D.
