Trad skills: Belay building and gear
WAAC members. Saturday 6th June - Borrowdale
Course or workshop description
This workshop is specifically for members of the Women's Alpine Adventure Club, part subsidised through funding from the Lakeland Climbing Centres charitable trust. This day is all about the fundamental ropework and gear skills for trad climbing. Perfect for anyone that is new to trad climbing, is starting to second trad climbs, wants a refresher, or has only ever learnt from friends and wants to check and refine their skills. The main focus will be building belays and placing and judging trad gear at single pitch venues - which together are the building blocks for safe trad climbing and leading. We'll do some climbing as well while we teach skills, and leave you with a clear picture of where you are at with your trad climbing. It doesn't matter what grade you climb, and it will be a relaxed and fun group environment. You will need to: - have some prior experience of outdoor climbing, even if its just a few climbs outdoors - know how to competently belay and tie in - bring your own harness, helmet and rock shoes (I have some available for hire but pelase let me know in advance) - bring suitable outdoor clothing for the weather Location: Borrowdale (meeting point in Keswick) Timings: 9.30am - 4pm
