Course or workshop description
Do you already know how to lead trad climbs, but want to set up top ropes for yourself, friends or family? Want some expert tuition to make sure you are doing things safely, but not interested in doing a full instructor training course? This 1 day workshop is perfect for anyone that already trad climbs and knows how to place trad gear, and wants to set up safe and slick top ropes so that they can work harder routes, or look after a friend or family member at a single pitch venue. Please note - this workshop is NOT a qualification, and will not cover everything that a 3 day instructor training course covers. However it will give you expert input and enable you to gain the skills for setting up safe and appropriate top ropes. We will cover: - using a static or semi-staic rope to rig bottom and top ropes - judging your trad gear at the top and building super safe systems - choosing appropriate routes - personal safety at the top of the crag - kit and equipment - ethics and etiquette at crags - knowing your skill level and responsibilities Prior experience: You must already be able to lead trad climbs, place trad gear, and competently lead belay. It doesn't matter what grade you climb, you just need enough trad experience to be able to take on new ropework skills and apply them safely. You will need: Harness + belay device Helmet Rock shoes A small selection of trad gear, slings, caribiners Dynamic and semi-static rigging rope if you have them Location: Hutton Roof, nr Kendal Timings: 09.30am - 4.30pm Group size: 6 max
